President Donald Trump has ordered the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations, calling them wasteful, ineffective, and contrary to American interests.
The decision follows a State Department review conducted under Executive Order 14199, which examined U.S. participation in both United Nations and non-UN entities. According to the White House, the review found many institutions to be mismanaged, redundant, or hostile to U.S. sovereignty.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio strongly defended the move, saying American taxpayers should no longer fund organizations that deliver little benefit to the American people.
The administration says this action is part of Trump’s renewed “America First” agenda, and that reviews of additional international organizations are still ongoing.
