What they failed to do is see if any country has been successful at doing this - unfortunately, none have.
Those who have tried to circumvent the Magnitsky Act ended up damaging their economy long-term as well as damaging their ratings with global banks, costing them dearly to attain any loans, including through the IMF.
The irony of it all - Moraes and Dino do not want laws from other countries enforced on the people of Brazil to have any effect, and yet both are guilty of pushing exactly that on Rumble, X, and multiple Brazilians who live abroad who are now U.S. citizens.

The United States Embassy in Brazil released a statement from Deputy Assistant Secretary Christopher Landau against Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes, accusing him of “usurping dictatorial power” by threatening leaders of other branches of government and their families.
The separation of powers among different branches of government is the greatest guarantor of liberty ever devised by the human mind.
No single branch or person can amass too much power if checked by the others.
But a formal separation of powers means nothing if one branch has the means to intimidate the others into surrendering their constitutional prerogatives.
What is happening now in Brazil underscores this point: a single Justice of the Supreme Court has usurped dictatorial power by threatening leaders of the other branches, or their families, with arrest, imprisonment, or other penalties.
This person has destroyed Brazil’s historically close relationship with the U.S. by, among other things, attempting to apply Brazilian law extraterritorially to silence individuals and companies on U.S. soil.
And the situation is unprecedented and anomalous precisely because that person wears a judicial robe: whereas we can always negotiate with leaders of a country’s executive or legislative branches, there is no way to negotiate with a judge, who must maintain the pretense that all his actions are dictated by law.
So we find ourselves in a dead end where the usurper cloaks himself in the rule of law, and the other branches insist that they are powerless to act.
If anyone can think of a precedent in human history where a single unelected judge has seized control of his nation’s fate, please advise.
We want to return to our historic friendship with the great nation of Brazil!

Brazilian general officers have been sent to assist at the Chinese Embassy in Beijing for the first time in history.
The decision, signed this month by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, ends the exclusivity of the United States as the only country to receive this type of high-ranking military support
Three attachés were appointed:
an Army general officer as Defense and Army Attaché
a Navy rear admiral as Naval Attaché
an Air Force colonel as Aeronautics Attaché.
Two deputies were also appointed to support military functions in the Asian country.
The measure comes amid a period of closer ties between Brazil and China and during diplomatic tensions with the United States, although this connection was not mentioned in the official decree.
Among the attachés’ responsibilities are negotiating cooperation agreements, exchanging information, participating in official visits, and monitoring technological and industrial advancements in the defense sector.

Jason Miller, campaign strategist for President Donald Trump, who was once detained in Brazil by order of Justice Alexandre de Moraes, stated that his goal is the release of former President Jair Bolsonaro
"To be clear, I will not stop, I will not give up, I will never give up until President Jair Bolsonaro is free."
Miller had shared news that justices of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) were reportedly “terrified” about the Magnitsky Act.
The information was published by a columnist from the newspaper O Globo, citing, off the record, an influential politician with direct access to the justices.
In reaction to these revelations, he wrote: “Free Bolsonaro… or else.”
The short post ended with a target emoji, signaling that the other justices were in the crosshairs of the Magnitsky Act, which sanctioned Justice Alexandre de Moraes on July 30.

The United States government wants to investigate China’s strategic interest in Brazil’s agricultural sector and the impacts of “investments or control” by China on supply chains, the global market, and food security
The information is in the legislative proposal for the Intelligence Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026, which, for the U.S., begins on October 1, 2025.
At 280 pages, the bill for the coming year mentions Brazil in section 514 of subtitle B, which specifically addresses China.
According to the text, the investigation should consider:
the extent to which Chinese leader Xi Jinping participated in or directed interactions with Brazilian leadership regarding Brazil’s agricultural sector;
the degree of involvement between the Chinese government and Brazil’s agricultural sector;
any strategic intentions behind Xi’s involvement or guidance to invest in Brazil’s agricultural sector;
the number of China-based or Chinese state-owned officials/entities that have invested in Brazil’s agricultural sector, including joint ventures with Brazilian companies; and
the impacts on supply chains, the global market, and food security resulting from Chinese government investments or control over Brazil’s agricultural sector.
In addition to Brazil and China, the bill also mentions, among other foreign countries, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba.
Although the NSA had already spied on Brazil during Dilma Rousseff’s presidency (PT), according to 2013 Wikileaks revelations, this is the first time the country has been cited in this type of bill.
The explicit intent of the U.S. government comes amid an unprecedented escalation of tensions between the two countries since Brazil’s return to democracy.

Finance Minister Fernando Haddad says he received notice of cancellation of a meeting with members of the US government's economic team; he accuses hidden and evil forces of the extreme right of acting against the country
The US government's economic team denies that the meeting with Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Haddad was caused by evil political forces: "The minister wanted an impossible schedule, and we don't have the time he wants; he should have come earlier."
Ironically, in the same week that the US canceled a meeting with members of the Brazilian government's economic team, a meeting is scheduled between Donald Trump and Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) to discuss new sanctions against Brazilian political members and police officers.
Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and journalist Paulo Figueiredo issued a joint statement to deny any political interference in the cancellation of the meeting between Finance Minister Fernando Haddad and United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
Earlier, the minister said that the meeting scheduled to discuss the tariff increase imposed by the U.S. against Brazil was canceled by “far-right forces” that operate alongside the White House.
“Haddad prefers to blame others for his own incompetence, while Lula just goes around talking nonsense and inflaming the diplomatic crisis,” says the statement from Eduardo and Figueiredo. Read the full statement below:
"The federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and I became aware of the statements by Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, who tried to attribute to our actions in the United States the alleged reason for the cancellation of a meeting with the American Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent.
“Haddad prefers to blame others for his own incompetence, while Lula just goes around talking nonsense and inflaming the diplomatic crisis.
“Almost 2 weeks ago, President Donald Trump declared an economic emergency in the U.S., clearly presenting the reasons. Until Brazil addresses these points, any meeting will be mere theater — and, therefore, useless.
“We do not have, nor do we intend to have, any control over the schedule of the U.S. Treasury Secretary.
“Mr. Bessent is an admirable professional who follows the directives set by the President and preserves solely and exclusively the interests of the American people.
“This Wednesday, we will once again depart for Washington, D.C., for a series of meetings with American authorities — because we keep doors open. Perhaps Lula would also have them if, instead of protecting his own regime and engaging in ideological bravado, he put diplomacy and the national interest first.

Bernardo Van Brussel Barroso, son of the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Luís Roberto Barroso, has decided not to return to the United States following the suspension of visas for Court ministers and their family members by the Donald Trump administration
Bernardo works as an associate director at BTG Pactual, the largest investment bank in Latin America, in Miami.
He was on vacation in Europe when, on July 18, the measure was announced that revoked the visas of 7 STF ministers, including Barroso’s, and those of their relatives.
According to sources, the decision is believed to have been guided by Barroso himself, out of concern that the sanctions could affect his family members.
It has not yet been confirmed whether the son’s visa was canceled.
The choice not to return was made as a precaution.
Bernardo is expected to travel to Brazil.

An Ilyushin IL-76 aircraft, sanctioned by the United States government, landed at Brasília International Airport in Brazil after a long flight with several stopovers from Moscow
The four-engine cargo plane, designed in the Soviet Union, is operated by Aviacon Zitotrans, a Russia-based company sanctioned in 2023 by the U.S. government. U.S. sanctions against Aviacon Zitotrans and the Ilyushin IL-76 itself, registration RA-78765, were imposed due to flights by the company transporting cargo to Venezuela.
The U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) includes the aircraft on its prohibited list.
The Russian company has also carried out cargo flights to North Korea, a country that supplied military material to Russia after the start of the invasion of Ukraine.
So far, the reason for the IL-76’s visit to Brasília is unclear, and there are no flight schedule records with Brazil’s ANAC, which could indicate a diplomatic mission or ferry flight.

The United States (U.S.), in a report released by the Department of State, declared that antisemitism in Brazil increased nearly sixfold between January and May 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
There were 886 reported cases, mainly on social media.
The Brazilian Jewish community, which numbers around 120,000 people, suffered this surge in attacks.
The Brazilian law, the report emphasizes, punishes the use of Nazi symbols with up to 5 years in prison.
The rise in intolerance, according to the report, follows statements by President Lula (PT), who in February 2024 said that “what is happening in the Gaza Strip… is genocide” and compared the conflict to Nazi persecution.

The United States government stated that the human rights situation in Brazil “has deteriorated” and criticized Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
In the annual report on human rights practices around the world, the Brazilian judge was mentioned in a passage and accused of promoting censorship of supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) through judicial rulings.
In another section, the U.S. administration accuses the Lula government of undermining “democratic debate by restricting access to online content” that could “undermine democracy.”
In addition, the U.S. claims that Brazil suppressed unfavorable political demonstrations, classifying them as “hate speech.”
As examples of Moraes’ alleged actions against Bolsonaro’s allies, the report cites the recent legal battle between Brazil and the 𝕏 platform owned by billionaire Elon Musk.
13 AUGUST 2025
Judge Airton Vieira, who served as an aide to Minister Alexandre de Moraes at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) from mid-2018 to March 2025, reported in an audio recording the pressures and difficulties he faced during his time in the office: “I can’t take it anymore.”
In the message sent on January 14, 2023, to Eduardo Tagliaferro, then head of the Special Advisory for Combating Disinformation at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Vieira stated that he had reached his physical, psychological, and emotional limit.
“Look, things are really bad, you know? I can’t take it anymore physically, psychologically, emotionally. I can’t sleep peacefully, I have no peace of mind, I’m completely losing my mental soundness, the little I still had, you know? Things are really bad.”
In the audio, Vieira also complained about interference in his work. “Even later, in matters of custody hearings, you know, he comes and gives his input,” he lamented. “I don’t know how this will develop, honestly speaking, but I know I’ve already reached my limit — in fact, I’ve gone past my limit a long time ago.”
An important context is that the complaint in the audio was made just one day after Moraes’ chief of staff created a WhatsApp group to compile records of those detained on January 8.
It was this work he was complaining about, along with the Custody Hearings (the name of the group on WhatsApp).

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that he intends to encourage BRICS members to trade in currencies other than the dollar, even though this idea is discouraged by other members of the bloc.
According to the leftist leader, the idea needs to be tested in order not to “remain dependent” on the American currency
“We cannot remain dependent on the dollar, which is the currency of a single country that was adopted as the world’s currency.
We have the right to trade — why can’t I trade with China using the Chinese and Brazilian currencies?
We don’t want to tamper with the dollar; it’s an important currency, the U.S. has the machine that prints it.
But we can discuss within BRICS the need for a trade currency among us in BRICS. I will not reject this idea because I need to test it.
I need someone to convince me that I am wrong.”

The Trump Administration sanctioned Brazilian officials and former PAHO employees for the Cuban medical mission in Brazil known as “Mais Médicos (More Doctors),” according to the newspaper “Miami Herald.”
The sanctions target authorities involved in a program through which former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff hired more than 10,000 Cuban doctors between 2013 and 2018 to provide services in remote areas of Brazil.
The State Department did not disclose how many employees were sanctioned but stated that it revoked the visas of Mozart, Júlio Tabosa Sales, and Alberto Kleiman, two former employees of Brazil’s Ministry of Health, according to the Miami newspaper article.

Brazil’s orange juice industry is on alert over rising costs caused by tariffs imposed by the United States government. Although President Donald Trump did not set a 50% rate on the Brazilian product, he imposed a 10% tariff, which adds to other existing duties.
Almost all of Brazil’s production is destined for the foreign market, with the United States accounting for 37% of exports. With the additional 10% in the U.S., the industry estimates a loss of US$100 million.
The calculation is based on an average exchange rate of R$5.85 to the dollar, equivalent to R$585 million.

LAWFARE: The defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has submitted its closing arguments to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in the criminal case regarding the alleged coup attempt. The legal team requests acquittal and denounces an “environment of massacre,” in which the press has already anticipated the former president’s arrest based “on unidentified sources.”
“The defendants are treated as coup plotters, as guilty, long before the defense is presented. A significant portion of the country, the majority of the press, does not want a trial, only to know the length of the sentence to be imposed,” reads a section of the document.
The attorneys pointed to a lack of evidence in the complaint filed by the Office of the Prosecutor General (PGR) linking Bolsonaro to the events of January 8, 2023.
“In this environment of massacre, the defense, it must be said, has not been granted full rights to defend itself. On repeated occasions it was stated and reaffirmed that the only evidence that matters is the one chosen by the prosecution, which is a signal for the upcoming trial,” they emphasized.
Bolsonaro requests the annulment of the plea bargain agreement of Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, considering the deal “worthless” due to a lack of voluntariness.
According to the defense, the military officer allegedly acted under “veiled threats” involving his family.
Our note: In Brazil, anyone who has had charges placed upon them is assumed guilty and must prove their innocence. As you can imagine, this has resulted in many innocent people being incarcerated, only to have some see their charges reversed at a much later date.

The Russian Ilyushin IL-76TD aircraft, sanctioned by the U.S., which remained in Brasília for 3 days, has landed in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela.
The cargo plane, registration RA-78765, is sanctioned by the U.S. for transporting weapons to the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro.
A check of ANAC records shows no request for a commercial flight by Aviacon Zitotrans, which has previously carried out other operations in Brazil.
This has led to suspicions that it may have been a diplomatic flight, but no official explanation has been released by the authorities, even though the IL-76 remained parked on the apron of Brasília’s Air Base.
After leaving the Brazilian capital, the plane flew to Santa Cruz, Bolivia, where it stayed for a few hours before departing for Bogotá, Colombia, making another brief stop and then flying to Caracas.
The expectation is that the IL-76 will continue to Cuba or Moscow, according to the flight history of Russian-registered aircraft in the region.

According to Idrees Ali, a Reuters correspondent, the Pentagon has been instructed to prepare military options to strike locations in Latin America
However, there are few details at this time about the grounds for the current military operation underway in the southern Caribbean.
According to sources, an MQ-9 Reaper drone flew deep into Mexican territory, mapping sites for the Pentagon’s and CIA’s military intelligence databases.
Intel analysts are undecided about the targets but are concerned about unusual movements in territories and communications in the following countries: Haiti, Panama, Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, and Nicaragua.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Brazil is a “terrible trade partner”: “They’re not happy, but that’s how it works.”
“They have treated us very badly as a trade partner for many years. One of the worst countries on Earth in that regard. Brazil has been a terrible trade partner in terms of tariffs — as you know, they charge us huge tariffs, much, much higher than what we charge, and, basically, we weren’t even charging anything. Now they are being charged 50% tariffs, and they’re not happy, but that’s how it works.”
Also, President Donald Trump once again defended former President Jair Messias Bolsonaro (PL) in the case investigating an alleged attempt to stage a coup d’état after the 2022 elections: “They are trying to carry out a political execution of Bolsonaro.”
“And Brazil has some very bad laws in place. They took a president and put him in prison — or are trying to imprison him. And it so happens that I know the man, and I will tell you, I’m very good at reading people, and I think he is an honest man. I think it’s a political execution what they are trying to do to Bolsonaro. I think it’s terrible.”

Brazilian congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, says trade negotiations between the United States and Brazil cannot work if they focus only on commerce instead of the broader “institutional crisis” he sees in Brazil:
More U.S. sanctions and visa restrictions are expected against Brazilian targets, along with the possibility of higher tariffs on all countries worldwide;
Eduardo says Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) has “lost power” due to U.S. measures and does not see how the court could win a confrontation with Donald Trump’s administration, even if it tries to circumvent the rules;
He says he expects the U.S. to impose visa restrictions on Brazil’s Health Minister, Alexandre Padilha, and likely on former President Dilma Rousseff, linked to the Cuban doctors’ exchange program sanctioned by Marco Rubio;
After meeting with U.S. officials, Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro said he expects financial sanctions against the wife of Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is overseeing his father’s trial.

Paulo Figueiredo, a Brazilian journalist (and grandson of João Figueiredo, the last dictator to govern Brazil) on 𝕏:
Today, Eduardo Bolsonaro and I concluded an intense two-day schedule in Washington, D.C., with meetings at various agencies and with authorities from the U.S. administration — a level of dialogue that the current Brazilian government seems to have difficulty establishing. Our goal was to directly present our perspective on the serious political situation in Brazil and to share our views on possible courses of action.
The decisions rest solely with President Donald Trump and his secretaries, but we return with the certainty that the United States is committed to helping Brazil restore its freedoms. The pressure in this direction is far from over. For those who love freedom, there is much to celebrate. For tyrants, much to fear. May common sense prevail, and may our country get back on track, restoring its historic partnership with the cradle of democracy and the most prosperous nation in history.

Pastor Silas Malafaia, considered one of the country’s main religious leaders and the most influential pastor in Latin America, is under investigation by the Federal Police.
He has been included in the same inquiry involving Jair Bolsonaro, Eduardo Bolsonaro, and Paulo Figueiredo, known as a branch of the Fake News Inquiry
Opened in May, the proceedings investigate actions against authorities, against the Supreme Federal Court, public officials, and attempts to obtain international sanctions against Brazil.
According to Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the case’s rapporteur, these initiatives aimed to hinder the progress of the trial in which Jair Bolsonaro is a defendant for allegedly attempting a coup d’état.
Malafaia was responsible for organizing the rally in support of Bolsonaro on August 3, during which the former president appeared in a video broadcast on third-party social media accounts, resulting in his house arrest the following day.

The United States has canceled the visas of the wife and daughter of Brazil’s Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha.
The minister did not have his visa canceled because it had already expired in 2024.
The U.S. Consulate General in São Paulo informed the minister’s family of the cancellations.
The U.S. government argued that “information had emerged indicating” that Padilha’s wife and daughter were no longer eligible.
Padilha, who headed the ministry in 2013 when the Mais Médicos [More Doctors] program was created during Dilma Rousseff’s government, stated that this makes no difference in his life.

At the request of Lula’s (PT) government, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), forwarded to the Ethics Council four requests for the revocation of the mandate of federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP)
The requests were mainly made by parties from the government’s base, including the Workers’ Party (PT), for allegedly acting against Brazil by arranging sanctions with the United States government.
One of the requests was filed by the PT leader in the Chamber, Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ), claiming “abandonment of mandate,” even though everyone was aware that Eduardo could be arrested at the airport upon returning to the country.
Hugo Motta has strongly criticized Eduardo Bolsonaro’s actions in the United States, calling them “indefensible” and stating, “We cannot place personal interest, no matter how valid it may be, above the interest of the country,” in an interview this week.
However, Motta cannot guarantee Eduardo’s safe return to the country to carry out his mandate, as he is aware of confidential orders issued by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for the deputy’s immediate arrest.

The US military is deploying more than 4,000 Marines and sailors to the waters around Latin America and the Caribbean as part of a ramped-up effort to combat drug cartels
The deployment of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit to US Southern Command, which has not been previously reported, is part of a broader repositioning of military assets to the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility that has been underway over the last three weeks, one of the officials said.
A nuclear-powered attack submarine, additional P8 Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft, several destroyers, and a guided-missile cruiser are also being allocated to US Southern Command as part of the mission, the officials said.
A 3rd person familiar with the matter said the additional assets are “aimed at addressing threats to US national security from specially designated narco-terrorist organizations in the region.”

The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is considering a boycott of United States military products in retaliation for the tariffs imposed on Brazil by Donald Trump, and the move has put the entire chain of command of the Army, Navy, and Air Force on high alert to resolve this impasse.

Days after canceling a meeting with the Brazilian government’s Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, met with Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and journalist Paulo Figueiredo:
“On Wednesday, August 13, we had an excellent meeting with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. It’s a unique opportunity to be able to talk about Brazil and America with someone so well-prepared.
“Thank you, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, for your receptiveness and helpfulness. May the bonds of friendship between Brazil and the USA grow even stronger.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) released a video on social media where he planted grapes at the Palácio da Alvorada, the official residence of the Brazilian head of state, and sent a message to Donald Trump
“Grapes are among the products affected by tariffs imposed on Brazil by the U.S. government. According to Lula, production can be redirected to school meals. The left-wing administration plans to purchase food that would otherwise be exported to the U.S. but lost competitiveness, using it instead in social programs.
“It’s no use for President Trump to tax our grapes. If necessary, they will go to school meals. Now, this is an example: I’m planting food, not planting violence and hatred. I hope that one day we can talk, President Trump, so you can learn about the quality of the Brazilian people.”
Unlike dozens of other world leaders, Lula takes the opposite stance, believing Trump will be the one to call him for a meeting to resolve tariffs, rather than the other way around, as has been happening in recent months.
Lula also invited the U.S. president to attend COP30, even as the host state of the event declared him persona non grata.
Our Note: Lula needs a new assistant; Trump is pulling the U.S. out of all climate change conferences, and it is the country receiving the tariff that visits the country imposing the tariff… It’s called protocol.

Minister Flávio Dino, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), has ruled that measures taken by foreign governments cannot affect Brazilians without support in national legislation.
The decision was handed down in a monocratic ruling regarding the Mariana Agreement, but with a clear signal against the application of the Magnitsky Law in the country.
Although the decision refers to a case concerning the agreement signed in the aftermath of the mining dam disaster, Dino stresses that the order applies “in these proceedings and in all others in which foreign jurisdiction – or any foreign state body – seeks to impose, within national territory, unilateral acts over the authority of Brazil’s sovereign institutions."
“It is forbidden to enforce impositions, restrictions of rights, or coercive instruments carried out by legal entities incorporated under Brazilian law and headquartered and managed in the country, as well as those with branches or any professional, commercial, or brokerage activity in the Brazilian market, arising from determinations contained in unilateral foreign acts,” the minister wrote in his ruling.
In addition to ruling that foreign sanctions cannot be applied to Brazilians without legal backing, Dino convened a public hearing to discuss the decision “with all the complexities involved.”
He also ordered that the ruling be communicated to all agencies within the National Financial System, such as the Central Bank, the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), and the National Confederation of Insurance Companies (CNseg).
“Transactions, operations, contract cancellations, asset freezes, transfers abroad (or from abroad) by determination of a foreign state, in disagreement with the principles of this decision, require express authorization from this Court. Laws, acts, and rulings from another country, as well as any declarations of intent, will have no effect in Brazil when they offend national sovereignty, public order, and good morals!”

BRAZILIAN SUPREME COURT JUSTICE PROHIBITS THE APPLICATION OF THE MAGNITSKY ACT IN BRAZIL (???)
Justice Dino’s attempt to block the application of the Magnitsky Act through an supreme court pen stroke is the materialization of the institutional crisis Brazil is experiencing.
It’s like trying to repeal the law of gravity with a random court ruling.
The result? Chaos.
This is a turning point for all those who pretended not to see the serious institutional crisis into which the regime has plunged the country.
Will the financial elites of Brazil choose to sink along with this troupe of lunatics, or will they sit down with the real adults and solve the problem that affects everyone?
19 Aug

Members of the White House, the State Department, and the Treasury Department were informed about the decision of Justice Flávio Dino of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which prevents the application of laws or court rulings from other countries in Brazil
The information was confirmed by journalist Paulo Figueiredo, who stated that the notice to U.S. authorities was given minutes after Justice Dino’s decision was made public.
According to him, there is still no official position, but a response is expected. "They will decide what to do, but obviously it will not go unanswered."
Attorney Martin de Luca, who represents Rumble and Trump Media in a lawsuit against Justice Moraes in the Federal Court of Florida, criticized Dino’s decision, claiming it is a "political message to Washington" and amplifies the "perception of insecurity."
"Justice Flávio Dino’s decision is presented as a defense of sovereignty, but in practice it sends a political message to Washington precisely at a time when Brazil and the United States would need institutional dialogue, not friction.
“The risk is that instead of protecting the country, this kind of response amplifies the perception of legal uncertainty and fragility in the business environment — something that can drive away investors and harm Brazil at the very moment it most needs external confidence."
The U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs reacted to the decision of Justice Flávio Dino of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which prevents the application of laws or court rulings from other countries in Brazil, and warned that everyone could face sanctions if such action continues.
Alexandre de Moraes is toxic to all legitimate businesses and individuals seeking access to the US and its markets. No foreign court can invalidate United States sanctions—or spare anyone from the steep consequences of violating them.
U.S. persons are prohibited from transacting with him, and non-U.S. persons must tread carefully: those providing material support to human rights abusers risk sanctions themselves.

Businesses have been nervous about Moraes behavior and reactions - and that nervousness is now starting to manifest itself into protective actions…
Founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Nubank (ROXO34), David Vélez, sold US$435.6 million in bank shares
David Vélez sold US$435.6 million in Nubank shares on Friday (08/15/2025), representing 33 million shares.
It was the 3rd sale since the IPO, for "estate planning purposes", according to the bank.
In a video posted on social media, Malafaia reiterated that Justice Alexandre de Moraes should be impeached, tried, and imprisoned.
Nubank is a Brazilian digital banking platform and financial technology company that has become the largest financial technology company in Latin America and one of the largest firms by market value in the region. It offers a wide range of financial services, including credit cards, digital accounts, investments, and insurance, aiming to simplify financial management for its customers.
