The Importance of Sovereignty and Jurisdiction
Brazil's Moraes ignores both at what should be his own expense...
The ONLY reason Brazil Supreme Court Justice Moraes is getting away with what he is doing with social media companies is because the companies are permitting him to do so and their permission is all based on the feelings of FEAR.
Moraes has no judicial nor sovereignty authority save for Brazil - if a company is based in Brazil, then only that segment of the business is affected.
Despite what he may think and feel, no one died and made him the Social Media King Leopold II or King Henry VIII of the world (2 of the most murderous kings in history).
Save for Rumble (and Gab as they have escaped his wrath for some blessed reason :-) ), instead of backing Liberty the social media companies have complied out of fear and they probably did so for reasons that affect their bottom line instead of reasons that will secure the trust of those in other countries who use their platform.
There is no way of legally enforcing fines on a company that does not have a presence in Brazil - the Brazilian govt can opt to block the platforms from being received in their country but that scenario was tried and is still being tried in China. VPNs are just insurmountable.
The question for Social Media companies isn't should they comply with Moraes but do they want to keep the trust of their users?
Twr, FB, IG, Google, YT are now seeing an exodus to other platforms that they cannot stops - and they can only ride on the vortexes left from their high flying days for so long.
It would do all the alternative platforms to keep this in mind with this and any future stupid maneuver pulled by a judicial bully.
Glen Greenwald provide more details and updates about Moraes bullying in this video (published 13-Jan-2023 - clicking the image opens the video in his rumble account)...
Do note - the legal notice he is sharing was sent to multiple social media platforms and they were all told NOT to tell the account holders why they were censored…
Uhhhhhhh NO….
