The Brazilian's Clandestine Public Prosecutor's Office
The Attorney General's Office (AGU) is acting as a kind of clandestine Public Prosecutor's Office. In the absence of a Prosecutor General willing to do everything in the frenzied pursuit of the enemies of the Lula-Moraes consortium, Jorge Messias (the historic office-boy of Dilma) decided to take on the prosecutor's role himself.
Thus, Alexandre de Moraes no longer needs Paulo Gonet for anything. The Public Prosecutor's Office has been diminished, reduced to nothing. Who needs Paulo Gonet when there's Jorge Messias to do the job of Prosecutor General?
Jorge Messias is using the Attorney General's Office to persecute journalist Michael Shellenberger, who made public the Twitter Files. In an attempt to justify this anomalous action, Messias offered the flimsy excuse that the disclosure of these documents harms the investigations into January 8, with the Federal Government being interested.
However, Messias did not explain exactly how the investigations could be harmed, since most of the data contained therein refers to posts that, besides being prior to January 8, were public. The only thing that was secret was censorship itself (a secret only for foreigners, of course, because for us Brazilians it was already more than clear).
The attributions of the AGU are defined in Complementary Law No. 73/93. The agency's main function is to represent the Federal Government in judicial and extrajudicial actions, provide legal advice and assistance to executive branch agencies, draft contracts and agreements, etc.
According to the press, the AGU would have initiated an internal inquiry (?!) to probe into the possible occurrence of obstruction of justice and undue influence in administrative and judicial proceedings by X. It would even have requested from the Supreme Court the sharing of evidence from the investigation into digital militias and the investigation involving Elon Musk. Here we have the clandestine Public Prosecutor's Office, acting before the Supreme Court.
Brazilians already know, but foreigners should know that Jorge Messias is historically linked to prominent figures of the Workers' Party.
He became famous in 2016, in the episode where then-President Dilma Rousseff, fearing Lula's arrest, prepared a term of office for Lula for a ministry, to ensure him privileged jurisdiction in order to prevent him from being arrested by a first-instance judge. The person tasked with delivering the document to Lula was precisely... Jorge Messias.
With Lula's return to the presidency, Jorge Messias was rewarded with the leadership of the Attorney General's Office. Apparently, he's trying to please the boss.
