The current President of Poland is Karol Nawrocki, who was inaugurated on August 6, 2025, after winning a narrow election victory in June 2025.
He succeeded Andrzej Duda, who served two terms and was constitutionally prohibited from serving a third.
Nawrocki, a conservative nationalist and historian, was endorsed by former U.S. President Donald Trump during his campaign, and he ran under the slogan "Poland first, Poles first".
His election has been noted as a shift back to the conservative right in Poland.
Nawrocki's first overseas trip as president was to the White House on September 3, 2025, to meet with President Trump.
During this meeting, Nawrocki pressed Trump to maintain a strong U.S. military presence in Poland to deter Russia, and Trump stated that U.S. troops would remain in Poland and could be increased if requested.
Nawrocki's presidency has created tensions with Poland's pro-European government, led by Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Nawrocki has stated that Poland will remain in the EU but stressed national sovereignty, declaring…
"Poland is a member of the European Union, but it will not become the European Union — it is Poland and it will remain Poland."
He has also expressed opposition to illegal immigration and Poland adopting the euro.
His views suggest potential clashes with Kyiv, as he has taken a tougher line on Ukraine, including opposing its proposed EU and NATO membership.
Despite this, he has emphasized Poland's clear position of "lack of trust in Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation".
The president of Poland is the head of state, and their prerogatives and duties are defined in the Constitution of Poland.
