Gordon G. Chang is an American lawyer, political analyst, and conservative columnist known for his hawkish views on China.
He is the author of several books, including The Coming Collapse of China and Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes On the World.
He lived and worked in China and Hong Kong for nearly 2 decades.
Born on July 5, 1951, in Bedminster, New Jersey, Chang's father is from Rugao, Jiangsu, China, and his mother is of Scottish ancestry.
He worked as a Partner and Counsel at law firms Baker & McKenzie and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP during his time in mainland China and Hong Kong.
Chang is a frequent columnist for outlets such as The Daily Beast, Forbes.com, and Newsweek.
He is recognized as an expert on China and Chinese-US relations.
His book, The Coming Collapse of China, published in 2001, predicted China's collapse by 2011.
In his 2020 book, The Great U.S.-China Tech War, Chang argued that China and the United States are engaged in a "cold tech war" to dominate the 21st century.
He has stated that China seeks to overthrow the Westphalian order rather than compete within it.
Chang has also served 2 terms as a trustee of Cornell University.
