Alberta Takes Yet Another Step Closer to Jurisdictional Alignment
Those last 2 words set Ottawa into denial, want to guess why?
Well, the title is premature; however, Premier Danielle Smith has taken a crucial step forward towards decisiveness and commitment.
That crucial step?
The Alberta government has engaged in early-level consultation with American counterparts regarding economic and jurisdictional alignment.
Jurisdictional alignment is key as it explores a willingness to explore what Alberta’s legal and economic framework would look like if modeled after or integrated with another country.
Her reply to reporters’ questions concerning U.S. Statehood says all anyone needs to know, including Ottawa…
“Albertans have always deserved a say in how their resources are managed, how their money is spent, and who they’re accountable to.
“If Ottawa continues to ignore that, we will keep all options on the table.”
Ottawa started all this with its energy regulation, carbon taxes, and federal interference in provincial matters, and trade barriers placed upon Alberta - creating decades of frustration, which has now morphed into a momentum for recognition, a recognition that Ottawa still denies Alberta.
At the heart of all this is a socialist approach to equalize the money generated by all provinces into what is supposed to be equal portions to each province (aka resource revenue sharing).
We all know how that goes…
Those who think they have the power abuse those who have given them the power.
Now Alberta is taking that power back.
